As one system accelerates and stimulates, so does the other slows, constricts and inhibits. Through the various brain waves in the music, Delta, Theta, Alpha, Beta and Gamma vibrations have the power to activate either of the two systems, or both simultaneously. |

The Sympathetic Nervous System extends throughout the Thoracic and Lumbar regions, the middle of the Spine. The Parasympathetic Nervous System's efferent neurons extend from the sacral and cranial (brain stem), so that the strange movements that emanate in bodies during the innerdance are in fact activations taking place in either or both systems.

The Brain Waves are accessible through an innerdance facilitator's music library. A set of songs, carefully selected depending on the space-holder's tastes, combine with the healing session's intentions and the audience's orientations.

The music library ideally speaks the vocabulary of the five brain wave states, delta, theta, alpha, beta and gamma, enabling the respective characteristics each state of consciousness brings about. Beyond the well-known five, there are also the MU Wave (or Mu Rhythms) and the SMR or Sensorimotor Rhythm, both of which are intensively activated during the innerdance process, which we bring into deeper understanding in the next weeks.

In Music, Melody is like thought and speech - a linear succession of sound elements, rising and falling through a combination of pitch and rhythm. Melody in jazz, Indian, Chinese, African, the Balinese music (and cultures) is a complex array of contexts and memory. In this same way, certain right-brained languages in the world are tonal, meanings are sung just as they are spoken.
The innerdance facilitator begins with realizing we are part of the history of melody. As such, we are part of the alteration in the rising and falling in the range of song, both as active change agents, the makers of music … and as its passive listeners ...these roles bearing different sets of responsibilities.
The Brain has a History just as it is also History unto itself. The Brain of History consumes and digest sound, recomposing it through the body that is transformed by it.
Melody in today's Brain is inter-melodic, weaved by melodies within melodies. In the following podcast, we explore the shifting paradigms in the Age of the Anthropocene, with a spoken rendition of the last chapter of Daniel Smail's book, Deep History and the Brain, which Catherine Malabou primarily refers to in the Brain of History talk we discussed during the Yellow Week.
